Satisfaction in Cancer Prevention and Control: A Survey

American Society for Preventive Oncology (ASPO) stablished in 1976 as a professional organization rned with preventive oncology. Since that time, has evolved to address not only new scientific that have developed, but also the changing needs members in terms of professional development ne way ASPO has done this is through the use of ys of ASPO membership. One area that is cony changing is career needs and job satisfaction. satisfaction is associated with professional adment, greater productivity, and higher salary across fields, including academia (2). There are a number ographic (gender, discipline), environmental (relaips with colleagues and trainees, mentorship, instial climate), and value-specific (achievement, ition, support, advancement, salary) factors associith job satisfaction among academic faculty (3-6). the past decade, numerous initiatives have examhe state of professional advancement and faculty ction (7-10) and offered actionable steps to improve conditions at the institutional level (8). Unfortu, the recent economic downturn has endangered tainment of these goals (11, 12). O conducted two surveys investigating this area g its members. The first was in 2001, and the second n 2009. The goal of this report is to compare rees from ASPO members to both surveys and then e some recommendations, based on the results, to leadership and institutional leaders to address the of cancer researchers in terms of career developand job satisfaction.
